SC7: A Primer on Digital Biomarkers and Measurement in the Connected Era
SUNDAY, MARCH 1 | 2:00 - 5:00 PM
ABOUT THIS COURSE:
Technology is changing how we practice medicine. Despite rapid advances, healthcare lags behind other industries in truly putting these technologies to use. A major barrier is the cross-disciplinary approaches required to successfully create and implement
these digital products. The aim of the course is to provide a common framework of language and clarify core concepts to promote collaboration among stakeholders. We will accomplish this through three parts:
TOPICS TO BE COVERED:
- An overview of digital medicine and the types of products available to measure and intervene in human health
- Regulatory, ethical, legal and security considerations when adopting digital products in research and clinical care
- Define terms that categorize types of digital measurements including biomarker, ePRO, verification and validation
WHO SHOULD ATTEND:
Directors, Managers, Researchers, and Scientists from Pharma, Biotechs, CROs, Academia, Government and Healthcare Organizations working in fields such as Digital Health, Diagnostics, Data Science, Personalized Medicine, Clinical Development, and Healthcare
INSTRUCTORS:
Andy Coravos, CEO & Co-Founder, Elektra Labs
Andy Coravos is a software engineer and the CEO/co-founder of Elektra Labs, which is building a pre-competitive digital biomarker consortium, and a Fellow at Boston Children’s Computation Health Informatics Program. Andy interned as a software
engineer at Akili Interactive Labs, a leader in digital medicine and digital biomarkers while in grad school. Before grad school, she worked at KKR, a private equity firm, and McKinsey & Company, a management consulting firm, where she focused
on the healthcare industry. She writes about healthcare, software/tech, digital biomarkers, the attention economy, and more on her blog.
Mark Shervey, Vice President, Engineering, Elektra Labs
Mark Shervey (@markshervey) is VP of Engineering at Elektra Labs. Prior to joining Elektra Labs, Mark was the Chief Architect for the Institute for Next Generation Healthcare at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai (INGH), where he managed
patient datasets, data integrations and led technology strategy at the institute. During his time at Mount Sinai, he represented INGH as their lead engineer for Lab100, a breakthrough project that is part clinic, part research lab, and uses precision
diagnostics to empower patients and help scientists advance our understanding of human health.
Christine Manta, MS, RD, Research Project Manager, Elektra Labs
Christine Manta (@christinemanta) is the Research Project Manager at Elektra Labs. Previously, Christine worked on research teams at Christiana Care’s Value Institute, University of Pittsburgh Medical Center (UPMC) and Children’s Hospital
of Philadelphia (CHOP). She was introduced to the digital medicine field via her work with Clinical Trials Transformation Initiative (CTTI)’s systematic review of feasibility studies using mobile technologies in clinical research. She has
a master’s in nutrition and is Registered Dietitian. Christine also serves as a Research Lead at Digital Medicine Society (DiMe), a 501(c)3 professional society for digital medicine practitioners.
